Elastomeric rubber foam's closed-cell structure prevents the passage of water vapor, which retards condensation and the damaging corrosion that comes with it. Although rubber pipe insulation is sometimes installed in hot water systems, it is more often used in refrigeration and air-conditioning applications, as the flow of cooled air or liquids through the pipes makes them especially susceptible to condensation formation.
